I think that the Jim Crow racial caste system is rude and harsh to colored people. We've talked about racism before so its not a big shock that this happened, but they went a little over board on there rules and how they thought about black people. I was shocked most about how blacks could not show public affection to each other but whites could, and that a black man could not offer his hand to a white man because it implied then as being socially equal and that a black man could not offer his hand or anything to a white woman because it was a risk of being accused of rape. Also a that there were different bathrooms for whites and black and different water fountains and places for them to go, and if a black person was caught being there they risked there house, there jobs, and even their lives. Black people were being accused of everything just because white people thought they were the chosen people.
Jim Crow was an extremely rasict type of anti black laws. Things that shcoked me. I didnt know that if a black man offered his hand your any other part of his body to a white woman that he would be accused of rape. Blacks were not aloud to show affection to each other in public because it offened whites. The last one that offened me was that blacks were introduced to whites, because whites were not aloud to be introduced to blacks.
O no forgot my personal response. I think that the jim crow system and anti blacks laws were very unfair to black people and other people that were not white. I think that they should have all been treated the same because there in no difference between any races we are all equal.
My absolute first reaction to this Jim Crow article is wow. I find it horrible and completely insolent of those poeple who participated in lynch mobs. I find it hard to come into the mind frame of the people who lived in these times, because as a person i could not treat even an animal in the way in which these people treated the blacks. I also think that the laws or ettiquette are especially shocking. If someone was convicted of rape for putting thier hand out today, i dont really think the case would really stand for much. Even small timeframes that whites and blacks may have had to be near eachother there were restrictions. i dont think even if i was a white that i could handle this segregation.
Jim Crow is really rasict like the first thing that struck my eye was the sign that said no dogs negros or mexicans it reallt shocked me how bad you can be against people with a different coloured skin. Some of his rules were way to harsh i think like you cant offer your hand to a white woman if your black because you would be accused of rape i think they went a little to farjust because there skin is a different color. The main thing is to think that every body is the same color on the inside.I think Jim was way to harsh on black people they should of just been able to live there life the same as white people.
I was very surprised to find out how racist the southern states used to be. I knew they were racist but this has really shown me how bad it had gotten. These laws are unfair and cruel to different races and I think alot of people in today's soceity would be surprised at how these laws were even passed. I was most surprised some of the laws that were in the article like how if a black person was in a car driven by a white person, the black person had to either sit in the back seat or sit in the very back if it was a truck. It also surprised me that white people always had the right of way over black people. The last thing that surprised me was black people were not supposed to suspect a white person of lying. These black people were arrested for things white people could do everyday.
